Wilbraham ChurchGood Works Fair: March 7th

Wilbraham United Church, 500 Main St., Wilbraham, will host a Good Works Fair on Sunday March 7, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Attendees will have the chance to learn about volunteering with or making donations to local nonprofit organizations. Participants include Friends of the Homeless, God's Little Acre, Second Chance for Homeless Cats, Dress for Success, Horizons for Homeless Children, Springfield Rescue Mission, Shriners Hospital for Children, MSPCC, and many others. Admission is free, but if you’re able, please bring non-perishable food; toiletries; NEW socks and underwear; new or gently used professional clothing, shoes, purses and jewelry; books, CDs or craft supplies for toddlers and preschoolers; children’s glue sticks and scissors; cat food; paper towels; or your checkbook! Maple 2010Maple Harvest Day: March 14th

Storrowton Village Museum will present its fourth annual Maple Harvest Day, Sunday, March 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the grounds of Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, Mass.

The history and lore of maple sugaring, a practice in Massachusetts since before the Pilgrims arrived, will be showcased through ongoing sap gathering and boiling demonstrations in the Gilbert Farmstead's front yard with Dennis Picard, director of Storrowton Village Museum. The free event will feature Sugar Maple tree tapping, sumac spile making and sap boiling over an open fire to educate the public about the origin and legend of the tradition.

Join Lindel Hart and Rick Roberts for an afternoon of physical, spiritual and mental rejuvenation as we enter into the stillness that promotes self exploration through yoga postures, chanting and meditation. Come together in community with others for this mindful retreat from an overactive world to reconnect with your natural state of balance, harmony and peace. The afternoon will include an asana practice guided by Lindel Hart and chanting with Rick Roberts and friends, as well as time for silent meditation together. There will be no specific instruction for meditation; we'll simply sit quietly together. No vocal/musical, yoga or meditation experience is necessary to experience the joy of this afternoon of contemplative practice. All are welcome, regardless of the type of yoga, meditation or spiritual practice you may have.

This event is FREE. However, donations are appreciated.

The Blue House Café in Haydenville offers homemade food, baked goods and specialty coffees in a cozy atmosphere. They feature organic fair trade Indigo Coffee roasted in Florence, Mapleline Farm milk from Hadley, free range eggs from Thomas Farm in Sunderland, and organic greens and spinach year round from Red Fire Farm  in Granby. Noho Arts CouncilYouthfilm Fest: February 20th

YouthFilm, the fourth annual showcase of films by local children and teens, will screen at the Academy of Music Theatre on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 12pm.  Films are run “festival-style” with films suitable for all ages shown earlier in the afternoon and those with mature themes shown later in the day.  Admission is $3 (cash only) for adults, and free for those 18 and under.  We look forward to collaborating with the area’s youth to further promote the arts in the community.

 

Haiti OxbowGallery Show to Benefit Haiti: February 28th

The Oxbow Gallery, an artist run cooperative gallery at 275 Pleasant Street in Northampton, is hosting a fundraiser event to benefit Partners in Health in Haiti. We expect to show 100 original works of art by local artists, several from Holyoke, valued at over $100.00. We plan to sell 100, $100.00 tickets to the event which will be held on Sunday evening February 28th from 5-8pm. Ticket holders will choose a work of art in a randomly selected order. If we sell all the tickets we will be able to send $10,000.00 to Partners in Health, Haiti. Tickets are available at the Oxbow Gallery, Broadside Books, and Food for Thought Books. Thanks to Paper City Brewery and River Valley Market for donating beer, food and wine.

 

Pioneer ValleyHaiti Earthquake Relief Benefit Concert: February 18th

At 8pm, The Red Barn at Hampshire College (One quarter mile north of the main entrance to Hampshire College at 893 West Street) in Amherst MA will host an evening of multicultural music to benefit Haiti earthquake relief. Featuring performances by:
Sambalanço - Samba batucada
Ayizan Sanon - Afro-Haitian music (http://www.Azakayo.com)
Grupo Folklórico Palo Santo - Afro-Cuban folkloric music & dance (http://www.GrupoPaloSanto.com).
Proceeds from this benefit will be donated to Partners In Health and Doctors Without Borders.
We hope that you will all join us for an evening of great music, and to raise money for two organizations that are delivering immediate and direct relief to people in Haiti.

Changing Habits uses ozone for cleaning and sanitizing diapers, a safer process that reduces are carbon footprint of the laundry process.
